The Question to Ask to Find Inner Peace with Yourself

What is your purpose?

I was challenged to describe my identity in a way that was separate from the things I do, the things I have, and the people I know.

I thought it would be easy, but it was actually quite difficult.

And I think this said something about me.

To find inner peace, reflect on your identity

How we see ourselves can shape the world around us — the narrative we carry can have a profound impact on not just our inner wellbeing, but can influence the action we decide to take following any event that happens to us.

It’s an idea I had understood superficially, but when asked to put my identity in words, I realized this is not something I have ever been asked to do before. We introduce ourselves using our job, our talents, our hobbies, and our family. We use clothes, homes, and material wealth to signal to others what we are worth and believe in.

But if our identity is our job, and we are let go, we lose confidence.

If our identity is our wealth, and we lose it, we struggle to find our own value.

If our identity is our relationship, and it is broken, we become lost.
