When was the last time you looked up at the night sky? Thousands and thousands of bright little specks across a canvas of navy, an unimaginable number to the naked eye. If you lie down and stare at it for long enough you’ll begin to notice all the stars slowly arc across.

But have you ever noticed that the brighter stars tend to move faster than the others?

The brightest stars are closest to Earth, and consequently they are also the first to dip behind the mountains and below the horizon. Yet the dimmest stars tend to linger throughout the night, remaining right up until daybreak.

“The dimmest star reveals the night sky.” — Japanese proverb

There is a saying in Japanese that the dimmest star reveals the night sky. Meaning, that the individuals who are born strong and fit tend to become reckless about their health and realize only when it’s too late, but those who are born perhaps weaker or fragile learn to take care of their wellbeing throughout the course of their lives and end up living the longest.
